Several questions have arisen as to what the Board does and why we need them.  Even the Board members wonder what is expected of them.  So let’s get it out there for everyone to see and talk about.

President:  This position is usually the face of the league.  If the public has questions or need information about the leagues they ask this person.  Their job is to promote the league to the public, bars and clubs, and news and advertising agencies.  This brings in new players, bars and clubs, and teams.  They are expected to run the Captain’s and or public meetings and make sure the run smoothly using Robert’s Rules of Order.  That way everyone get to speak but the meeting doesn’t last for days.  They also work with the Secretary and Treasurer to develop and order trophies and awards.  In addition, as part of their meeting duties they hand out the awards and make the announcements at the End of Season banquet and awards ceremony.  Along with the Treasurer, they approve how league funds are spent.

The Scotch Double league standings have been update and can be viewed, as usual,  under the menu "League Stats" by clicking on "Scotch Doubles Standings".  As a new and improved way for people to get stats or comment on them, I will be including them at the end of this article as well.

Even though we have lost several teams, the players seem to love the format.  It give you quick games and only one to one and a half hours at the clubs. Even though there is only four(4) weeks left, we seem to still have a close race.  Because of teams dropping out and forfeiting their money we should have a big payout for the teams that stayed.

I am sorry to say that Shaun and Andrea are no longer playing in the Monday Night Scotch doubles. This is the third team we have lost this season. I suspect this is because Summer is upon us and some people would like to be on the lake or river where it is cool. Whatever the case, they are now listed on the schedule as a FORFEIT and team scheduled to play them will receive their average plus 10% if their envelopes are turned in on time.

Did you know you can look up just your teams schedule? Check it out by clicking here. Or, see the full schedule by clicking here.

There are a few things that we need to discuss as the league moves forward this season.  Primarily, our Treasurer has been hospitalized.  Please keep Debbie in your thoughts and prayers as she recovers.  Her health is more important than the league and we will be pulling for her.  If needs be we will call a special meeting to put someone in her place until she is ready to get back out there.

I have only received one Roster.  There is a team turning in another on Monday.  We want to welcome them back as they have been gone from the league for a couple years.  To help improve team signups, I will be handing out Rosters and posters to every bar and club on Tuesday night.  This, of course, will push back the signups by a few days.  The new deadline to turn in a team roster will be Friday, June 6th.  This should still give me enough time to print and distribute the Captain’s packets as scheduled.  The deadline has been updated on the calendar.  So if you want to turn in a hard copy or do not have a computer or fax, just meet up with us at your home location.

Saturday morning I went out to bring back the envelopes I was missing and get the stats at least up to date.  Since I was out and I finally had a day off, I figured I might as well get this Friday's envelopes as well.  So it’s Sunday and all the stats are current and up to date. Normally, I did stats and delivered them Friday so all players could see how they did last week when they showed up to play this week’s games.  I did this for several reasons.

One, if I dropped off stats earlier that Friday just before we played, they would magically disappear before players ever had a chance to see them.  Then I would get tons of calls asking where the stats were.  In fact, if I drop them off too early on Friday I have the same problem.  If the bartender I drop them off to is not the same bartender that servers the pool players on Friday night then there is a large chance that they will be lost.
