End of Season time is here. We all need to meet at Cerbat Lanes Bar and Grill this Saturday from open to about 6:00 pm for the End of Season festivities. There will be a tournament and food along with the trophies and awards. Come down and have a nice Saturday playing Pool.
The standings have been corrected so they might have changed since the last time you looked at them. So give them another once over just to make sure.
This season's winners are displayed below. Teams are shown on the first row with personal awards shown after that. First Place Team was AL14 One, Second place was won by Rack & Roll, and Third Place was won by the Marines. Pictured below the teams are Jackie Mullins, Red Cross, Helen Hutchins, Scott Mullins, Dick Torgerson, and Tina Williams.
We raised a lot of money for charity this season. With it being our 16th year we should break $100,000 in total donations.
Remember there is a Captain's meeting this Friday 8/12/2016 at the VFW on John L starting at 6:00 the same time we usually play. We need to find a couple more board members to take over for President and a Secretary for at least one season.
The last article had a mistake in it. Mark did not play in Silver Singles with me, he played in Senior division. He also placed the highest from this area. Other players you see below are Todd Wilkinson, Harris McClaskey, Melvin Hunter, and Bryson Hunter. We did not do good in the team event but we got to play together for the last time at Nationals with Todd. He is no longer part of the league since he moved to Utah. This was also Harris's first time at a National competition. The nerves can eat you alive but he finally broke his cherry and got a win in the Nationals. This means he will be playing better so watch out when you get a game against him. Along with the photos we have some videos this time as well. One is a time exposure showing a game between Harris and I and the other is a Slo-Mo of Harris breaking to commemorate him breaking his cherry at Nationals.
Scotch Doubles and Singles are finishing up with teams starting tomorrow. We have lots of players from this area. Here are how some did. Mark finished 97th in Gold Singles 8-Ball, Melvin finished 129th in Silver Singles8-Ball, and I finished in 97th Silver Singles 8-Ball. Jackie and I placed 129th in Scotch Doubles. I am so proud of the local players. We come from a small town and we finish in the top 100 of the nation, that is amazing. Other players from Mohave County also played so this area has a good showing for the Nationals. We meet with some people from Virginia who send over 80 players every year. We are lucky to have that many players in a season. Below are some photo highlights of singles and scotch doubles.
It is time again for the charity league end of season banquet and tournament. Saturday morning we will be moving in the second table, setting up for the tournament, and getting ready for awards. The Elks Lodge opens at 11:00 AM so come in, sign up, and get some practice. The tournament will start at 12 Noon and the entry fee is $5.00. The league adds in $100 for the players. Double elimination with one game on each side is the regular setup for this tournament.
Dinner will start at 5:00 PM on Sunday followed by awards and a meeting for the players. This meeting is for informing the players what has been going on in the league. If a captains meeting needs to be called this is the time to let everyone know. If changes are not needed then we will continue with next season set the same as it is now.
Since I am tied up with the Fair until The end of September, we will have to start then or have another person take over for me this next season.
This was a great season with lots of teams. But VFW 2555 has decided not to be part of the league. With two tables down this only make it possible for us to field 12 teams. This will shorten the league to 22 weeks and of course will give use a lot less money to give away. If we could get a couple more tables we could move to one season a year with the summer off. That is the hardest time to get teams anyway.
Good luck and I'll see you on the tables.
